Here we are with a new Star Wars art project…
Inktober has drawn to an end and wow, what a month it has been. A productive month indeed. I now have a whole new bunch of sketches to add to the ever-growing collection of Star Wars Art and it’s time to leave the Galaxy and head back home to the UK. It’s been fascinating to spend a month exploring Jawa life and culture, capturing them with ink drawings.
I have tried each year over the past 3 or 4 years to meet the Inktober challenge head-on and plough through it, but for one reason or another, I’ve never seen it through, something always comes up and gets in the way. This year, however, I made sure I got my planning and preparation done in advance and being prepared definitely helped.
It’s been great to get stuck into the medium too, creating such a large body of work using only ink (and gel pens) has given me the perfect opportunity to fall in love with the medium and get a better handle on using the brush pens in particular.
Life As A Jawa is merely the beginning of my explorations of Jawas, the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and drawing with ink.
What Is Inktober?
Inktober is a month-long drawing challenge with the aim of helping people to improve their skills and develop positive drawing habits.
Throughout the month of October, participants create an ink drawing or sketch each day, following the daily prompt list.

Life As A Jawa
This project has been such an amazing journey, my imagination has been fired up creatively in so many different ways and the overall exploration of Jawas has been very inspiring.
Now I’m not one to leave it where it is and that’s the end of it, Life As A Jawa will be put together as an eSketchbook and made available for free download soon. Be sure not to miss out on that and Join The Journey to stay updated.
There’s also a few of these sketches that I’d quite like to revisit in the future and create more detailed artworks of, or explore the concepts further, such as the Jawa Jedi from Day 6 and further explore the survival skills highlighted in Day 16.
I mean, how cool would a graphic novel about a Jawa Jedi be, or a Jawa’s desert survival guide, there’s so much potential for interesting and exciting projects.
1. Crystal – “Put the crystal in the bag Gelfling and nobody needs to get hurt…” 2. Suit – For a Jawa, choosing what to wear is never a straightforward decision… 3. Vessel – The offworld Jawas of the Caribbean… 4. Knot – Ever wondered how Jawas tie the knot? 5. Raven – “Hey! Be careful where you aim that thing!” 6. Spirit – You know why you don’t see many Jawa Jedi? Faulty lightsabers… 7. Fan – It’s time to meet the Jawas’ 2nd biggest fan… 8. Watch – Jawas don’t only watch movies, they also love the Simpsons… 9. Pressure – There’s pressure on absent-minded professors of every kind… 10. Pick – Was that a beep beep or a meep meep? Grab a pick and let’s find out! 11. Sour – Sometimes even the best deals can turn sour… 12. Stuck – Jawas have always stuck together, even in dire circumstances… 13. Roof – The roof bar is the place to get a real sense of je ne sais utinni… 14. Tick – Even Jawas can just do it 15. Helmet – Can a Jawa with a Stormtrooper’s helmet join the Empire’s ranks? 16. Compass – The latest in Jawa navigation technology, the stick compass… 17. Collide – When stars collide, Jawas are always there to pick up the pieces… 18. Moon – That’s one small step for a Jawa, one giant leap for Jawakind… 19. Loop – A loop is a sure sign of a Jawa navigation system failure… 20. Sprout – Jawa shy guys never know what will sprout up in the Mushroom Kingdom… 21. Fuzzy – There’s nothing quite like relaxing on a fuzzy wuzzy Wookie rug… 22. Open – Open to offers, trade or coin, no refunds or returns… 23. Leak – A Jawa can sell a bucket of sand to a Tusken, even with a leak… 24. Extinct – The Galaxy Wildlife Federation are worried about Mudhorn extinction… 25. Splat – Splat! Watch out for falling debris… 26. Connect – Using a deerstalker and the science of deduction, even a Jawa can connect the dots… 27. Spark – It doesn’t take much to spark a Jawa’s curiosity… 28. Crispy – Jawas that upset their Tusken neighbours end up, crispy… 29. Patch – Even a small patch of quicksand can prove deadly… 30. Slither – “Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes?” 31. Risk – Would you risk seeing a Jawa without a hood?
